PRESS RELEASE
BurnsAdler
Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Licenses Nitrolingual® Pumpspray and
Nitronal®
IV Infusion from G. Pohl-Boskamp GmbH & Co.
Charlotte,
North Carolina – (June 17, 2003)
–
BurnsAdler Pharmaceuticals,
Inc. (“BurnsAdler”), an international pharmaceutical company,
announced today that they have entered into a seven year
licensing agreement with Pohl-Boskamp to market Nitrolingual®
Pumpspray® and Nitronal® IV Infusion throughout Latin
America. The company will launch and market both products
through local partners in over 10 countries. BurnsAdler will
market both the 60 and 200 dose bottles of Nitrolingual®
Pumpspray as well as the 50ml package of Nitronal® IV
Infusion. Nitrolingual® Spray is the market leader within the
sublingual segment of the nitroglycerin market in many major
markets including the United Kingdom, Canada, the United
States, Australia and Germany where it is marketed by Merck,
Aventis, First Horizon, Aventis and Pohl Boskamp,
respectively.
Banks Bourne, President of
BurnsAdler remarked, “We are pleased Pohl-Boskamp chose to
partner with our company in Latin America and are excited
about the market opportunity for these products. We believe
the expedited relief of chest pain, unique delivery mechanism,
and three year product shelf life, are just a few of the
reasons why patients will prefer Nitrolingual® Pumpspray over
nitroglycerin tablets for angina pectoris associated with
heart disease. These products make excellent additions to our
product portfolio and we look forward to a mutually beneficial
and long term alliance with Pohl-Boskamp.”
Nitrolingual® Pumpspray is a
sublingual spray of nitroglycerin used for the acute relief or
prevention of chest pain associated with angina pectoris that
results from heart disease. Pohl-Boskamp holds a patent that
was issued in 1993 on the formulation of Nitrolingual®. The
primary competitor to Nitrolingual® Pumpspray is short acting
nitroglycerin tablets. Unlike tablets, which have been shown
to lose their potency immediately upon opening the bottle,
Nitrolingual® Pumpspray maintains its potency for three
years. Further, studies have shown that the product provides
for more rapid absorption than the tablets. Each metered dose
of Nitrolingual® Pumpspray provides for consistent delivery of
nitroglycerin. Also, unlike the tablets, the product requires
less extensive storage and handling conditions. The American
College of
Cardiology/American Heart Association’s
Guidelines for the Management of Patients with Chronic Stable
Angina published in March 2000 recommends sublingual
nitroglycerin for the immediate relief of angina.
